NWCC 1010 Lincoln Mall Judges, Clerk, and Staff to Relocate
The Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Court occasionally receives reports of malicious email scams. These may be directed to injured workers claiming to set up a court hearing requiring the worker’s attendance and a request for payment of legal fees.
Please note that a Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Court Notice of Hearing WILL NOT:
Ask you to pay legal fees or demand payment by Venmo, Paypal, CashApp, or other payment applications
Ask you for bank account details or credit card information;
Refer to any state or federal governmental agency, department, board, or commission other than the “Nebraska Workers' Compensation Court”;
Refer to an identifying case number other than a docket and page number;
Have live links to websites, phone numbers, or addresses; or
Generally email you if you are represented by an attorney, or you made a specific request for the Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Court to notify you by email.
Staged Fake Video Hearings. Scammers contact injured workers by phone, email, or video call (often using apps like WhatsApp) and set up a fake court proceeding where actors play the roles of judges, attorneys, and other court staff.
Fee Demands for Settlements. Victims are told during or after a fake hearing that they have been awarded a massive settlement or back-pay, but must pay “processing fees,” “court costs,” or “taxes” before the money can be released.
Targeting Spanish-Speaking Claimants. Spanish-speaking injured workers are being heavily targeted by scammers.
Unsafe Payment Requests. Scammers demand that victims pay these fake fees using untraceable or irreversible methods, such as gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers.
Forged Seals and Fake “.Org” Email Domains. The fraudulent notices often utilize fake state labor or court seals, forged judge signatures, and spoofed email addresses mimicking official government or court email addresses.
